Alola Fair

The Alola Team

All the staff at Alola worked very hard for the Alola Fair on 19 May 2007, celebrating Independence Day and the end of Kirsty's mandate as First Lady of Timor-Leste.

Coined 'End of a Man-date is a Date for Women.' Alola presented 10 women with Strong Women Strong Nation Awards.

We set up stalls on the beach front, each program area competed for the best stall display and we invited a number of other organisations to join the event, for which Kirsty is Patron or Director.

The main event was the presentation of 10 Alola Strong Women Strong Nation Awards to women and girls who have made significant contributions to their communities and to women's issues.

Unfortunately at the height of proceedings, Dili decided to rain for the first time in three weeks. And when it rains in Dili - you really know about it. We all huddled under the tarpoline shelter and tried to be heard over the pelting storm. But regardless it was a great event and thanks must go to the entire Alola staff who did an amazing job of planning and putting on the event in just 10 days from idea to reality! What an tremendous effort. Enjoy the photos!
