The Alola Education team work in the schools of Timor Leste to improve the quality of education provided to the children, youth and teachers of Timor Leste. Education team travelling around countryside delivering scholarships, visiting Friendship Schools, facilitating workshop to introduce Child Rights for teachers, students and to conduct Life Skill Training for scholarship holders enrolled at secondary level. The obstacles facing young girls in Timor Leste, however, are often difficult to overcome. Cultural and economic barriers mean that girls drop out of school at a much higher rate than boys. Over 66% of women aged 15-60 are illiterate compared to 50% of men. Education is not always recognised as a priority for girls, particularly in large families.
