Alola’s Economic Empowerment Program has two main areas comprised of handicraft development and development of women’s livelihoods. The goal of this program is to strengthen women’s economic participation in order to improve the status of women, to increase income generating opportunities and to promote economic independence. This program achieved these results in 2018 through the development of rural women’s capacity through training, market access opportunities to increase income and to preserve the Timorese cultural identity. The program contributes significantly to economic development of rural women’s enterprise in Timor-Leste.
