Women Resource Center (WRC)

Through the Women’s Resources Center sub-program, several activities were implemented, and the results are as follows:

PROMOTE GENDER EQUALITY AND STRENGTHENING WOMEN AND YOUTH CAPACITY

In 2023, the Secretariat of State and Equality (SEI) granted Fundasaun Alola the responsibility to carry out a project entitled “Promote Gender Equality through Prevention of Gender-Based Violence and Strengthening Women and Youth Capacity”. This project aims to support the implementation of the National Action Plan on Gender-Based Violence (NAP GBV) for the period 2022–2032, particularly focusing on the prevention pillar. This decision is in line with the trust given to Fundasaun Alola in 2013 when it was appointed as the coordinator for the prevention pillar.  As a result of the activities, the Advocacy team achieved the following:

  • Conducted a mini-seminar to present the NAP GBV period 2022–2032 to the members of the working group advocacy. The aim was to help the members understand the content of NAP GBV based on the three pillars: prevention, protection, and access to justice. A total of 35 members, including relevant government partners and members from prevention, protection, and access to justice, attended the mini-seminar.
  • Conducted a national seminar for youth on the topic “The Journey of the Colonial Times as a Motivational Transformative Platform for Youth.” This activity was particularly interesting because most youth were eager to understand the situation during colonial times, which inspired them to take measures to ensure good governance and create peace and freedom in all aspects of life. A total of 165 participants (F:80 & M:85) from universities in Dili and secondary schools attended the seminar. Government speakers and senior activists for human rights, including the Ministry of Youth, Sport, and Art, contributed to the event.
