CHAMPIONING REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH RIGHTS: KIRSTY SWORD GUSMÃO ATTENDS WOMEN DELIVER HIGH-LEVEL FORUM
(Alola Media/Dili) —Chair of the Alola Foundation Board and humanitarian figure, Kirsty Sword Gusmão, emphasized the importance of Timor-Leste’s progress in sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR) at the Women Deliver High-Level Ministerial and Parliamentary Forum this week. 🏥✨
💬 “What an honour to share Timor-Leste’s progress and challenges in the area of sexual and reproductive health rights at the Women Deliver High-Level Ministerial and Parliamentary Forum this week,” she stated.
Attending not just as a prominent public figure but as a tireless advocate for women’s health, Ms. Sword Gusmão outlined the long journey and the ongoing challenges Timor-Leste faces in ensuring health access for women and children. For her, every milestone achieved represents a victory for women—even in the most remote districts. 👣🏔️
🤝 Strengthening International Cooperation,
The forum, which convened ministers and parliamentarians from around the world, served as a strategic platform for Timor-Leste to strengthen international cooperation. A highlight of the event was a warm meeting between the Alola Foundation founder and the Australian Minister for International Development, The Hon. Dr. Anne Aly MP, alongside the official delegation from Timor-Leste’s Ministry of Health. 🇦🇺🤝🇹🇱
“It was a bonus to be able to catch up with Federal Minister for International Development, The Hon. Dr. Anne Aly MP, along with Timor-Leste’s Minister for Health and her delegation,” said Ms. Sword Gusmão.
This side meeting underscored the mutual commitment to supporting sustainable development within the region.
🌸 “𝐌𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧”
The event also featured a notable moment when participants referred to Kirsty as the “Mother of the Nation.” Responding with her trademark humility, she lightheartedly remarked that the designation was not of her own making.
“I wasn’t responsible for the ‘mother of the nation’ designation 😊,” she shared on social media.
For the former First Lady of Timor-Leste, tangible contributions remain far more important than titles, although such international recognition stands as a testament to the profound impact of her lifelong humanitarian work. ❤️🕊️
